01. Listen
Located on the south bank of the River Themes, Battersea Power Station is one of the world’s largest brick buildings, notable for its art deco design. The station used to supply a fifth of London’s electricity, before being decommissioned between 1973 and 1983 then sitting derelict for decades.
Following several attempts to redevelop the Grade II* listed building, in 2012 Battersea Power Station was purchased by its current shareholders, and plans were made to create a new community of homes, shops and restaurants.
Within the Power Station itself, over 100 shop units will be built, creating over 7,000 jobs. Alongside the retail aspect of the renovation, 254 homes are in development within the Power Station, promising a high end and luxurious way of living.
02. Plan
Integrated Doorsets were tasked with manufacturing doorsets for all phases within the development of Battersea Power Station, for both retail and residential. Boiler House, Switch House East and Switch House West are separate sub-phases in the residential redevelopment within Battersea Power Station. Switch House West is the first phase to complete and welcome residents in early spring of 2021.
It was vital the industrial aspects of the building were incorporated into the redevelopment, in keeping with the heritage of the Power Station. IDSL had the task of manufacturing doorsets which complemented the vast history of the iconic building, whilst still matching the lavish and modern interiors.

03. Build
This prestigious project called for a range of door constructions to be used, including Enduracor 30 & 60, Ovi 30, 60 & NFR and Audiodor 38 30.
The apartment front entrance doorsets were our Audiodor 38. Thicker than normal doors were specified, and IDSL achieved a 94mm thick door leaf by using a layered approach, incorporating existing materials in a logical manner. This bespoke design was specifically fire and PAS 24 tested, enabling all security requirements to be met.
The veneer was hand selected to have a character oak appearance which matched the apartment flooring. There was also a requirement for the veneer leaves to not fall below a set width, in order to give the illusion of a large plank effect. Paired with bespoke pull handles, this combination added to the striking nature of the front entrance doorsets, and perfectly complements the exposed brickwork and industrial components of the building.
Three different stained finish options were produced for the front entrance doorsets, each for the three different residential sections of the Power Station.
Internal doorsets were a mixture of OVI NFR and OVI 30, and were painted in a white minimalistic fashion. These sleek, modern doorsets against the industrial backdrop of the Power Station create a perfect combination of contemporary and historic.
04. Deliver
Battersea Power Station promises to be one of the most exciting and innovative mixed used neighbourhoods in the world, a place to work, live, shop, eat and enjoy. With plans in place to open in 2022, this once derelict building will be restored to its former glory once again.
Integrated Doorsets are proud to have been involved in the restoration of such an iconic building. Our doorsets strike the balance between the original character of the building and its modern renovation, paying homage to the Power Stations vast history.
It was vital the industrial aspects of the building were incorporated into the redevelopment, in keeping with the heritage of the Power Station.
