One Bart’s Square

01. Listen

The One Bart’s Square offices are the anchor point of the whole Bart’s Square development project which establishes a new urban mixed use quarter in the heart of the City of London. Lead specifier, Sheppard Robson, called for ‘a distinctly modern form and materiality’ with generous floor to ceiling heights and a clean and flush appearance to the doorsets and adjoining panelling. Integrated Doorset Solutions were asked to provide a range of bespoke doorsets which complied with the aesthetic requirements of the design, whilst also complying with the specific functional and regulatory demands of a busy working environment.

O2. Plan

Integrated Doorset designed a range of bespoke 2.4M and 2.7M ceiling height doors, co-ordinating flush panelling and riser doors with no visible framing.  Acoustic testing was carried out specifically on some door designs to ensure achievement of a 35RwdB sound reduction and the majority of doors were required to achieve an FD30 or FD60 fire rating. The ‘walk-through’ doors were designed with finishes contrasting with adjacent panelling to ensure compliance with Equality Act & Approved Document M with respect to accessibility and visual contrast.  The toilet cubicles featured  a special design of concealed fix cubicle doors with an associated panel system.

03. Build

The doorsets were built around the Enduracor ® door design featuring a high performance stile and rail construction which ensures long term durability. Doors were fitted flush with the adjacent panelling with no visible frames and flush glazing beads were also detailed throughout to ensure a smooth and clean appearance. Factory painted high gloss white finishes were specified for the panelling and riser doors with the doors for through traffic supplied in a contrasting factory painted grey finish. Entrance doors to the toilets and adjacent panelling featured a striking patinated brass facing with toilet cubicle doors finished in a high gloss laminate. Concealed pivoting ironmongery was used to ensure no projection of unsightly hinges from the door construction to complement the flush design. All doorsets with associated ironmongery were factory built to ensure a high quality finish with minimal adjustment being required on site.

O4. Deliver

The project was delivered on time and on budget for the lead contractor Mace, with the support of specialist installer, Atlantic Joinery, regardless of the onerous operating conditions of such a busy central London site. The project provides a key landmark for this major City of London re-development and Integrated Doorsets is proud to have played a significant role in delivering the aesthetic and functional vision of such a prestigious scheme.

The project demanded a clean and flush look whilst ensuring full compliance with functional and regulatory requirements.
