Crafting Bespoke Solutions for a Complex Project
At IDSL, we thrive on creating bespoke and tailored doorset solutions to meet the unique demands of every project. One of our recent projects for a mixed-use residential development in London gave us the ability to truly test ourselves, putting our ability to adapt to evolving client requirements and overcome technical challenges while maintaining the highest quality standards to the test.
Adapting to Changing Requirements
The project began with what we would consider to be a straightforward request for a number of primed doorsets to be finished on-site. However, as plans developed, several doorsets in particular required a much more bespoke finish.
These doorsets would be located in a high-visibility concierge area, and needed to match a Mundy Tabu veneer to ensure a seamless blend with other design elements in the intended location. Additionally, the door was specified to operate on a pivot system and sit flush against the side wall when open. This presented a unique challenge and required a combination of precision engineering along with aesthetic expertise. Thankfully, the team at IDSL love a challenge and were quick to get to work.
Attention to Detail in Design and Finish
To ensure the bespoke doorset would meet the client’s exact specifications, we worked closely with them throughout the process. A small veneer sample and finish specification was produced to make sure everyone was happy with the result. We then began developing our bespoke solution.
Our production team encountered some initial minor challenges in achieving a perfect match with the specified finish. This meant using traditional stain and lacquer techniques was out of the question. Refusing to accept defeat, we experimented with alternative methods, including carefully adding tints, until the finish matched the sample provided perfectly.
This level of detail also extended to our technical drawings, which outlined every aspect of the doorset’s construction and installation. Particular attention was given to the design of the frame, as the bespoke nature of the veneer and pivot system required precise manufacturing techniques and instructions to achieve the desired result.
Overcoming Technical Challenges
Every project comes with its own unique set of challenges, and this one was no exception. We had to carefully consider certification limits for the doorset’s size and selected ironmongery that would work seamlessly with the bespoke design. To minimise these complexities, we produced additional internal drawings and maintained clear communication across our production and scheduling teams.
The finished veneer and bead sample were submitted for review and approval. We were pleased to receive a quick and positive confirmation from the client, a testament to the collaborative effort and expertise of the entire team.
Supporting Client Needs Every Step of the Way
From the initial design phase to the production of the bespoke doorset, our team is committed to providing the right solution to align with our client’s vision.
As with all projects, the contract manager and scheduling team closely monitored the progress of this doorset to ensure the high level of detail and complexity was managed effectively.
The remaining doorsets for the project are now well into production and are on track for a timely delivery. This project really helps to highlight some of our unique abilities such as being able to adapt to complex requirements, solve challenges collaboratively, and deliver bespoke solutions that meet unique and exacting standards.
Refining Solutions Together
We believe that every challenge presents an opportunity to innovate.
By working closely with clients and maintaining a focus on their needs, we consistently deliver on solutions that enhance the projects we are part of. It’s this collaborative approach that ensures every detail is addressed, no matter how unique the requirement.
We look forward to seeing the completed project and how everything will all tie together.
