MMH: Supporting Excellence in Healthcare
The Midland Metropolitan University Hospital is a landmark in modern healthcare, designed to provide exceptional care across the Midlands. Its construction required a seamless combination of innovation, precision, and collaboration. IDSL played a key role in delivering tailored solutions to meet the hospital’s unique needs.
Meeting Complex Design Needs
The hospital’s ambitious design featured over 40 zones, each requiring specialised solutions to support their specific functions. These zones ranged from high-sterility theatres to X-ray units and general wards, making meticulous planning essential. Completing such a large-scale facility demanded close coordination to ensure practicality while complying with strict healthcare standards.
To address these challenges, IDSL supported the project team by finalising designs and manufacturing schedules. At the same time, they maintained clear communication with all stakeholders. By thoroughly understanding the hospital’s requirements, IDSL ensured every project element aligned with its vision for cutting-edge healthcare.
Innovative Collaboration
To bring the hospital’s vision to life, IDSL collaborated closely with the project team and the Trust. This partnership allowed them to offer both expertise and practical solutions. Regular design meetings for each zone helped all parties refine specifications while ensuring consistent alignment.
To streamline the approval process, IDSL developed a unique coding system for the doorsets. This innovation made the process faster and more efficient. It also enabled the hospital team to visualise each component’s functionality. As a result, the design met the needs of staff, patients, and visitors.
Delivering Bespoke Solutions
The hospital’s diverse requirements called for a versatile and high-quality product range to match its complex specifications. IDSL manufactured and supplied approximately 2,800 frames, 4,500 doors, and 280 screens. These included specialised doorsets for areas requiring high sterility and radiation protection.
Manufacturing began in November 2020 with a phased approach. This strategy involved delivering frames first, followed by doors, to align with the construction schedule. By doing so, IDSL helped the hospital programme remain on track without compromising quality.
Ensuring Long-Term Performance
As the project advanced, IDSL provided ongoing support to address site-specific needs and challenges. This included making repairs to minor damages and adjustments to ensure every doorset met exacting healthcare standards. Their commitment to quality ensured the hospital opened with all systems ready to perform seamlessly.
A Collaborative Success
The Midland Metropolitan University Hospital is a significant achievement in both design and the collaboration that brought it to life. IDSL’s support throughout the project provided the bespoke solutions needed to serve the community effectively.
By balancing functionality, compliance, and innovation, this project sets a new standard for healthcare facilities. It demonstrates how expertise and collaboration can achieve outstanding results, paving the way for future advancements in the sector.
