Integrated Doorsets achieves first verified EPD for its OVI doorset range

We’re pleased to share a first for Integrated Doorsets: our OVI internal timber doorset range now has an independently verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), covering OVI NR, FD30 and FD60 variants.

It’s our first product EPD, with more already in the works. There’s been plenty of work behind the scenes to reach this point, and we’re proud to have the declaration in place.

For our customers and the people specifying our doorsets, it also means access to detailed environmental information that can help inform project decisions.

What is an Environmental Product Declaration?

An Environmental Product Declaration is a document that reports a product’s environmental impacts using life-cycle assessment data. Our OVI EPD has been independently verified through EPD Hub and prepared in accordance with EN 15804+A2 and ISO 14025.

In practical terms, it gives readers a documented basis for understanding the environmental impacts associated with the product and the life-cycle stages assessed.

For OVI, the declaration covers raw materials and manufacturing, transport to site and installation, as well as end-of-life scenarios. It also reports potential benefits and loads associated with material and energy recovery beyond the product’s life cycle. The use-stage modules are not declared.

Which OVI doorsets does the EPD cover?

The declaration covers our OVI internal timber doorset range:

  • OVI NR: the non-fire-rated variant.
  • OVI FD30: the 30-minute fire-rated variant.
  • OVI FD60: the 60-minute fire-rated variant.

OVI FD30 is the representative product used for the grouped declaration, with information about the other variants included in the document. The declared unit is one square metre of door and frame, including glazing and hinges.

These details help anyone using the data understand what has been assessed and how it relates to the doorset being specified.

How does the OVI EPD help customers and specifiers?

When assessing the environmental impact of a building project, it helps to know where product information comes from and what it includes.

The OVI EPD provides product-specific environmental data, with its assessment boundaries, assumptions and verification set out in the declaration. This gives project teams evidence they can review when considering the environmental contribution of the specified doorsets.

It can also help inform building-level environmental assessments, provided the data is applied within the relevant assessment method and project context.

An EPD does not, on its own, mean that a product has a lower environmental impact than an alternative. Comparisons need to account for the products’ functions, assessment boundaries and the building context. The OVI declaration includes guidance on these limitations.

For us, making this information available is a useful step in helping customers make informed decisions about our products.

Our first EPD, with more to follow

With the OVI declaration now in place, work is continuing on further product EPDs.

We’ll share those as they progress. For now, we’re pleased to make our first verified declaration available to customers, specifiers and project teams.
